The Reel Heroes of South Florida Bass Fishing Tournament hosted by the Veteran Owls of Florida Atlantic University began its 5 Day Bass Tournament on Friday, March 28th at 7:00 a.m. and concluded on Tuesday, April 1st 9:00 a.m.

This event was a Catch and Release Photograph fishing tournament and fundraiser for The Respect and Remember Foundation.  Several hundred dollars was raised with angler’s paying a $45 entry fee.

Participating anglers were given 5 days of fishing opportunities at any legally-fished bodies of water in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties to catch and report their top 5 (by length) Largemouth Bass or Peacock Bass.

Winners received prize packs donated by supporting individuals, businesses and organizations. Current angler categories were Overall, Veteran, Florida Atlantic University Student, and Biggest Bass.

Anglers that qualified for one or more of the angler categories had to submit the required proof/documents as stated in the tournament rules.

Anglers fished from shore or boat; however, all fishing and associated activities were conducted at the angler’s own risk. All Local, State and Federal laws and regulations regarding fishing, boating, waterways, animal care, and land use were observed. A minimum length of 10″ was required for a fish to be reported.  All anglers had to have a valid Florida freshwater fishing license for the duration of the tournament, and all fish were caught on rod and reel.

On April 1st at 6:00 p.m. the event finale was held at the Military and Veteran Students Success Center at Florida Atlantic University’s Boca Raton Campus (address below). Winners were PRESENT at the finale event to claim their prize.  Winners that were absent from the event will forfeited their standing in the tournament.

The Respect and Remember Foundation was formed to honor Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Christian Knauss, who was killed in the Abbey Gate suicide bombing during the withdrawal from Afghanistan on August 26, 2021 while assisting with the evacuation of our Afghan allies and their families.
